Does Xbox or Nintendo accept Bitcoin?

Nintendo does not. The US eShop takes credit cards, eShop cards and PayPal. Nintendo says eShop cards work only in the country or region where they were meant to be sold.

Microsoft has a longer history:

  • December 2014: Microsoft began accepting Bitcoin through BitPay, in the US only, to top up Microsoft accounts for Windows and Xbox.
  • March 2016: a support page said Bitcoin was no longer accepted. Microsoft then called this an error.
  • January 2018: staff described a temporary halt because of price swings. Fortune reported a return on 10 January 2018.

The Microsoft help pages we found today do not mention Bitcoin, so we do not claim it is still accepted.

For the Nintendo Switch 2, one more rule matters. Switch 2 game cards are not region locked. But Nintendo's warranty applies only in the country or region where the console was meant to be sold.
